Who is Abakhan Fabrics?
Abakhan Fabrics has been operating in Estonia since the beginning of the 90s. The parent company is located in England and has been operating for a total of 60 years. Today there are a total of 12 physical stores, 7 of them in Estonia and 5 in Latvia, and an updated e-shop.
Abakhan shops are a paradise for every craft lover. There you can get materials and tools for exciting DIY, goods from different corners of the world, and fabrics are offered by weight. There is also the possibility to shop online and order fabric samples conveniently at home.

Project’s goal
E-commerce and online purchases are constantly growing, and customers’ expectations for convenient, fast and smooth shopping from e-stores have increased. The customer wants to see a clear visual of the products, a good design as a whole and then a convenient way to make purchases.
Previously, the Abakhan e-shop was created for the Magento 1 version, whose official support had ended and was no longer as secure. The goal was to rebuild the entire Abakhan website to the latest version of Magento 2 and, in addition, to change the appearance according to the new design, based on the Abakhan design style.
Solution
We supported the Abakhan team throughout the entire development process.
The result was the creation of a new and modernly designed Magento 2 e-store, which, unlike the old store, has interfaces that help e-store users and Abakhan webmasters to make everyday life easier.
What are Magento’s strengths?
It is technically more complex than some other platforms, but it is very easy for the store owner to manage and categorize products on this platform. It is also possible to add personalized and varied solutions to the flexible platform designed specifically for e-shops, because every shop wants to be in line with its brand values and peculiarities. Technical challenge
The technical challenge was to get a new checkout system working capable of supporting all the new Magento modules. In addition, it was necessary to integrate seamlessly with the financial software used by the company to ensure smooth functionality from both the client’s and Abakhan’s user perspectives. We developed the checkout system to be one-step, using Amasty Step Checkout. With this, we made the use of the cash register much more convenient and understandable for the customer. The new checkout enables the transmission of analytical information (e.g. compatible with Google Analytics). Also, the new checkout allows you to install the latest modules, such as PayPal.
By integrating the business software (Directo), we significantly enhanced the automation of the customer’s business processes. For instance, we automated the transmission and synchronization of order information from Magento to Directo, as well as the addition of generated invoices to customer emails.
Unique design
As part of the project, a completely unique design solution was created for Abakhan.
Based on the client’s needs, we created both UX and UI design, which were then implemented as a Magento 2 template. Given the varied and unique needs of Abakhan, this project also provided our front-end developer with both excitement and challenges.
